Lumen
Controguerra DOC Riserva
“An enveloping blend
that looks beyond the obvious”
In 1993, Dino Illuminati, a great admirer of the Bordeaux style, set out to explore the potential of our grape variety when blended with international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon. This experiment revealed the hidden versatility of the native grapes grown on our hills. He named it Lumen: a play on our surname, Illuminati, and the Latin word for ‘light’. In 1997, that wine earned us our first historic ‘Tre Bicchieri’ award from Gambero Rosso. Today, Lumen is still with us: a blend of Montepulciano and Cabernet that embodies the forward-thinking vision that has made us who we are. Eighteen months in barriques made from different types of oak, followed by a further eighteen months in bottle in our cellars. This is how that intense ruby red colour and the aroma of blackberries, redcurrants and ripe fruit are born. On the palate, it is well-structured, smooth, enveloping, harmonious and elegant. A Controguerra D.O.C. Riserva that brings to the glass the creative spirit of those who had the courage to experiment.
